Can we finally talk about some real issues again?

How many diaries can we get attacking Sen. Obama about his remarks at a SF fundraiser?  One user alone has 3, count 'em, 3 recommended diaries on the same subject.  

Amazing.

It seems supporters on both sides in their overwhelming emotional support of their own candidate will jump on any remark by the other candidate and exploit it.

This is self-destructive.  I mean, it is fine to have a few diaries about a particular subject, but the sheer number is stupifying.

We are going to lose this election unless we talk about the issues that are important to Americans.

-The economy.

-The housing crisis.

-The Iraq war.

How about a diary on these subjects?  Instead of concentrating on gotcha politics, let's talk about issues that are important to the people that these diaries profess to defend.

I believe it is time to move on.

It is not a big deal to me , what is really disturbing to me is the Rev. Wrigth thing not this one.

Been there, done that (none / 0)

Some of us have tried to write about the issues that affect all of us like the economy, the war, immigration. However, few people ever seem interested. It's only when Obama or Clinton get in a little hot water do their supporters start rallying for more substantive diaries.

The policy wonks have had their day (2.00 / 1)

Both candidates have done their homework. They have both written and spoken about what they'd like to do once elected - subject to the process of checks and balances we call Congressional Legislation. Both candidates espouse and hold the core values that have characterized members of the Democratic party at least over the past two generations. Both candidates believe that a majority of the citizens of the United States want change badly enough that they will vote AGAINST a Republican candidate in November.
What the Democrats badly and bitterly learned in both 2000 and 2004 was that, at the end of the day, these races were not won or lost on matters of policy, but rather on matters of "perception", created in the mass media by masters of language hired by the Republicans, that painted inaccurate, but believable pictures of the Democratic candidates.
Both the Obama and Clinton camps are well aware of this. The writers of the diaries on this issue have attempted to make the point that at the end of the day voters will have to choose between candidates based on a mind-set. One mind set is fueled in anger and victimhood and brings forth words describing hope and change. The other mind set is fueled by a belief that people can work together to improve their circumstances and that the next leader of our country has to MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN. Voters will be choosing their candidate based not only on which mindset inspires them but by which point of view is likely to get the job done. There are some very important ideas in those diaries. Talking about issues isn't going to get the job done.

I'd love to read about issues, but I'm too busy sifting through CRAP about bittergate. And Tulza before that. And Wright before that.
